I grew up on a farm where outdoor physical activity was the norm. My favorite sports growing up were soccer, basketball, volleyball, and later on mountain biking and snowboarding. As an adult, I have retained a passion for sports, especially outdoors adventure sports. One of my favorite experiences was rock climbing up Devil's Tower in Wyoming. Now as a husband and father of three teenagers I stay pretty busy with family activities, working on our family farm, and coaching Crossfit.
One day in my mid thirties I stumbled into a Crossfit gym. I had been searching for a way to get back into shape and fight off the winter blues. The idea of running on a treadmill or lifting weights alone did not appeal to me, so I thought I'd try a class. I was hooked immediately. What I found with Crossfit was so much more than a way to get into shape! I had found something that challenged me both mentally and physically. I had found a community of friends to motivate and encourage me. Oh yeah... and I got a lot stronger and felt better too.
I am a big believer that we should never stop learning--no matter what age. I still have much to learn about Crossfit even though I have been coaching it for seven years. One of the ways I learn best is through teaching others. There is no "perfect" with Crossfit, but there is "progress". Crossfit is for anyone, no matter their age, ability,
or body type. I love it when I can help anyone along in their fitness journey.
